Community art in Tapulikaupunki

Communal art in Tapulikaupunki
Taidetta Tapuliin is a 3-year (2022-2024) project by Helsinki Urban Art that focuses on creating art and cultural events in Tapulikaupunki area.
The first major sub-project was a communal art project that completely changed the exterior of Heka’s maintenance building at Kämnerinkuja 3.
The worn-down maintenance building, also dubbed as “the Hut”, was redecorated in a week-long communal workshop. The new exterior features leaves of trees that can be found in Tapulikaupunki region as well as hands reaching towards each other. Over 30 people from toddlers to retirees participated in the project.
At the end of August 2022, we painted the almost 100-meter wall at Tapulikaupungintie 32. The wall was divided into three parts: Puistola, Tapuli and Suutarila. In the communal workshop, the residents of the surrounding areas used a stencil and spray paint to paint paper airplanes that guide in the direction of each part of the city. The painting acts as a road sign at the roundabout at the busy road.
Taidetta Tapuliin is a part of the Helsinki Model, city of Helsinki’s cultural strategy focusing on balancing and diversifying art and culture services in Helsinki. You can read more about the Helsinki Model here.
