DISTURBING DOMESTIC PEACE
by Hello the Mushroom, KBR, DISH ja Miss.Printed
The exhibition is about four women trying to live their lives in the midst of a collapsing world. We hear voices bringing news of major disasters, politicians speaking in a serious tone, a crisis in another world, the panic of thousands, and the harsh fate of millions. In our own personal bubble, we laugh with friends, watch the daisies grow, and catch up on the latest Bridgerton on Netflix. We dance and try to keep it together.
Sieltä jostain (eng. From somewhere)
by Kati Leskinen
Abandoned objects, escapers from the balcony, expressionless people and neglective neighbors, the place is somewhere. A place where nobody cares about anything anymore, and I haven’t cared for a long time either. 9 years and 10 months in a suburb of Vantaa, where the buzz of the city doesn’t reach, and no one calls the police about small things anymore. Does anyone call anyone anymore?
My violets escaped first from the balcony onto the gravel in the yard. The Beautiful Escapers left when me and myself were still firmly stuck in the suburbs, and dreams no longer lived with us. Dreams weren’t for us. We didn’t care about them, just like we didn’t care about the broken glass bottles in the neighborhood, which were like ceramics in the middle and center of the Escapers. Dreams disappear from here, even though they are the most important thing and the center of human life. I lived in a place that was from somewhere.
Kemê
Kemê (1983) is a neurodivergent multidisciplinary artist, poet and parent of Sephardi/Mizrahi/Spanish descent based in Helsinki.
In her work, she intuitively embraces multiple mediums, such as illustration, photography, performance, embroidery, installation, and text, as languages bridging the constructions we inhabit and our complexities. She perceives art as a tool closer to the magic realm, able to move us through the spiritual and the subconscious.
Leima Otsassa
Leima Otsassa is an ongoing art sticker project about mental health, created in 2019 by an
anonymous street artist. Each sticker is of a character, who wears the F-code of their psychiatric diagnosis on their forehead. So far, the number of different characters is around 80. The sheer number of characters brings into view just how many different possible diagnoses and problems there are. On one hand, the F-code is a stigma, which can lead to discrimination, shame, marginalization and social issues, on another, the brand is invisible. We cannot know who has been branded and with what.
Admission to the opening and the exhibition is free. After the opening the exhibition will be open 22.8.-28.9.2024 during opening hours.
