MAIKKI RANTALA & SARA MULTANEN, Raappavuorenrinne 2
Maikki Rantala and Sara Multanen
Residents and visitors of Martinlaakso now have a new dose of color in their surroundings in the form of a mural inspired by the neighborhood’s forest sceneries.
Helsinki Urban Art’s Maikki Rantala and Sara Multanen painted a mural in Martinlaakso, Vantaa in May of 2017. Planning of the piece started a year before that, and the residents’ board had their opinion heard regarding the preliminary sketch. The image was finalised based on their feedback.
Typical to the area of Martinlaakso are high, tree-topped cliffs with paths crossing through them, and this scenery was set at the core of the female figure in the piece. As the piece is set in the crossing of central pedestrian routes and in an open place, the whole neighbourhood can easily enjoy it. The owner of the house also organised a residents’ meeting with the artists during the painting, where they could ask more questions about the work. The residents’ and the passers-by feedback has been extremely positive.
