MAIKKI RANTALA, Tuubapolku 2
Maikki Rantala created a vibrant mural to the wall of a residential building located in the corner of three busy streets in the residential area of Kannelmäki in Helsinki.
The aim was to brighten up the look of the heavy concrete building. The residents were included in the making of this participatory piece in all the phases from planning to painting. The piece was inspired by some important nature elements of the area as well as the musically themed street names.
The colourful and vibrant piece has been adored from the very beginning and has become a landmark for the area. The mural is located at a crossroads, where many of the locals can see it everyday and it is also visible from the trains passing by.
The mural was made as part of the More Street Art in Helsinki -project that was funded by the Uusimaa Regional Fund of the Finnish Cultural Foundation. The project advocated for and created more street art in Helsinki in 2015 – 2016 and led to the founding of Helsinki Urban Art.
