PREMIERE: Kera-kollektiivi – kunnes seinät sortuvat
For two years Kera-Kollektiivi poured color and soul to the empty space of Keran Hallit.
Keran Hallit hosted a gardening spot created by locals, the biggest mural collection in Finland and two event venues. Even the old loading bridges were turned into stages.
In the spring 2021, Concreate Urban Art Festival gathered over 40 artists to create art on the surfaces of Lähettämö and Konttori. After two week’s work the spaces were opened for the public. In the course of one and a half months, the exhibition attracted almost 10 000 visitors. After the restrictions were lifted, the space hosted various events such as concerts, flea markets, show wrestling events, raves and a cat show.
But we knew that our time in Keran Hallit would come to an end. With sad yet grateful feelings we celebrated the funeral for the space in December 2021. At this moment, our old spaces are crushed by demolition machines. Half of the halls are still standing, offering their various services for a few more years. Then they will give the floor for Kera, a future smart city for 14 000 inhabitants.
Now there’s a movie about all this. It will be premiering in March 25th 2022 in Vapaakaupungin Olohuone. Directed and produced by J.H. Jylkän, the movies tells a story on how dreams, bravery and excitement can become unique things in unique places.
